March 1, 2016: The Ties That Bind

Are you in a Bind??? Please join us on Tuesday March 1st as we explore techniques for Binding Off.
Last month, we worked on various ways to begin our projects. So we are dedicating this meeting to learning and/or improving ways to end our project including the basic, I-cord, 3-needle, tubular, and Jenny’s Surprisingly Stretchy bind offs. A huge “Thank You” to our volunteer instructors for the evening: Mary Joseph, Donna Moore, Linda Zalusky, Lisa Loftin, and Beth Thorowgood.

Some homework is required:

For the 3-needle Bind-off:

Prepare 2 sample swatches on the same size needles with your preferred yarn with the appropriate needle size, leaving the stitches live, and bring a third needle along to use in the bind-off. The swatch should be about 15-20 stitches with an inch or so of length.

For the tubular Bind-off:

Prepare a sample swatch in k1, p1 ribbing. The swatch should be about 20 or so stitches with an inch or so of length. Leave the stitches live to be used in the workshop. Please bring a set of double-point needles the same size as the ones used to create the swatch. Three double-point needles of the same size will be used in the bind-off.

For all other Bind-offs:

Prepare a sample swatch with your preferred yarn with the appropriate needle size. The swatch should be about 15-20 stitches with an inch or so of length. Leave the stitches live to be used in the workshop.

  1. Good Afternoon! I am currently a patient at the Cancer Specialists of Greater Dayton – Soin location. I recently picked up one of your knitted caps that you had made and donated. I wanted to send a special message to thank you for the cap and let you know that I’ve received so many compliments on it. It fits my head like a glove–ha, ha! Thanks for thinking of us and know that your time and effort is much appreciated by me and others on the floor. God bless you all!

    Sincerely,

    Susie
