October 3rd Meeting Topic:
The educational piece of our October 3rd meeting will feature Steve Lawrence known as SteveL on Ravelry. If you haven’t met Steve you are in for a treat.
He will be discussing best practices for Intarsia knitting as learned through The Scarf Project. He will touch on what distinguishes intarsia from other color work knitting, knitting techniques needed, yarn management, charts, lessons learned, and more. Steve has received permission from Lucy Neatby -LucyN to share a portion of her DVD “Intarsia Untangled” as part of the presentation. Steve says he will do his best to encourage each of us to try intarsia knitting or challenge ourselves by taking intarsia to the next level.
Be sure to check out the projects and notes that Steve has on Ravelry. http://www.ravelry.com/projects/SteveL
And on that very same day you will want to watch Dr. Oz! Take a look at this short blurb about the show that day: Men Who Knit on Dr. Oz
“Greetings fellow knitters. Just wanted to let you know that a couple of weeks ago the Dr. Oz show contacted me about MWK. They were working on a segment about MWK (in general) and asked for pics and info. I just got word today that the segment will air on Wednesday, October 3rd. Check your listings to see time. I can’t wait to see what they prepared from what I sent to them! We are making national TV.” (MWK is the Men Who Knit Ravelry Group)
Mark your calendar, ladies and gents! The first knit in of the MVKG will be on September 29, 2012 at my house: 2795 Bahns Drive, Beavercreek, Ohio.
I may still be unpacking by that time since I just moved, but if the boxes don’t bother me, they shouldn’t bother you!
I would like to encourage those of you who are new members, and those of you who are not members to attend the knit in. This is an open door policy as far as I am concerned. Come spend some time with us! You’ll love us, I promise!
Knitting will commence at 10:30 AM.
Please bring a covered dish to share. I will provide dessert and drinks (ice tea and water).
Parking: my driveway goes around to the back of the house. Feel free to pull into the back yard to park (really- off the blacktop and into the grass).
Door prizes will be awarded at 1:30 (after we eat of course). I am giving out door prizes for the following:
the knitter who drove the farthest.
the knitter who has been knitting the longest.
the knitter who is the newest knitter.
Temperatures look like they will be in the 60’s on Saturday. We can knit outside or inside. You might want to bring your lawn chair just in case.
I still have boxes in the house, there are still bare windows, and but we are gonna be sittin’ and knittin’!
Who’s excited????? Most of the members of the Miami Valley Knitting Guild are! This will be our first year at the Wool Gathering at Young’s Dairy in Yellow Springs, OH. If you haven’t ever heard of the Wool Gathering or know very little about it, take a look at this website: http://my.voyager.net/~nfisher/index1.htm .
The Miami Valley Knitting Guild will be located in Tent A, Booth 103. We will be offering Beginner Knitting lessons for Adults and Children on both Saturday and Sunday. Children’s classes will be held on both days at 11:00am. The kids will learn how to make the Knit stitch as they make a bracelet. The Adult Class will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday and 2:00pm on Sunday. Adults will also learn the Knit Stitch by making a cup cozy. All materials for the classes are provided by the Miami Valley Knitting Guild.
If you come by and leave us your name and email address your name will be entered in a raffle drawing that will take place on Sunday at 4:30pm. You do not need to be present to win, but you will need to come to one of our meetings to claim your prize if you are not present at the drawing. (Meetings are the first Wednesday of each month at 7pm at Sycamore Hospital.)
When you stop by the booth, be sure to pick up a row counter, our gift to you! You may also ask for help on any of your knitting projects. We will be on the lookout for great knitters who can come and teach us at our monthly meetings, so come by and brag about yourself a bit!
